Native American Tribes By: Kali Cole Caitlyn Perry
Where did they come from? • Two theories • Crossed the Bering Strait during the Ice Age • Crossed from Asia on small canoe-like boats
II. Three Native American Tribes • Mayan • Located on Yucatan peninsula (Chichen-Itza) • Height of empire(300-900 a.d.) • Religion-polytheistic (performed many ceremonies and sacrifices)-it was actually and honor to be sacrificed in all three civilizations • Leaders were kings and gods • Slash and burn framing techniques • Cities were organized into religious, market, and recreational centers
B. Aztec • Located in central Mexico (Tenochtitlan) Mexico City • 1200-1500 a.d. • Religion- polytheistic (ritualistic and sacrificial) • Leader was king and god • Chinampa-agriculture system- garden plots built on floating piers(remember, Tenochtitlan was surrounded by a lake) • Considered the most warlike
C. Inca • Located in Andes Mountains (Cuzco) • 1400-1500 a.d. • Religion- polytheistic (same as others) • Emperor was a god • Terrace farming- since Inca lived in large mountains, they cut levels out of the mountain (like steps) to farm on. The water draining down the mountain would act as a irrigation.
