Getting Informed… Over the next 4 weeks: • Each week, find one news story related to Canadian politics (no older than 7 days). • Print a copy for your binder. • Go online to the class page and post your story along with a reflection on the Government News Storiespage in the discussion forum. • Each post will be graded out of 10 based on the depth of your discussion
An Experience in Leadership • Organize yourself in to groups… • Group 1: Choose a leader • That leader choses 2 people to assist in leadership • Group 2: The shortest person in the group is the leader • Do not question the leader’s authority and follow their instructions exactly • Group 3: Collectively make decisions as a group, there is no leader, just popular vote.
Instructions: • Your group will build a tower using the straws and tape provided. • Resources will be limited, so they must be managed well. • The tower should be as tall as possible. Only tape and straws may be used. • You will have 10 minutes to complete the task.

Reflect… • How was your experience under your group’s leadership structure? • Did you feel you had an important part to play in making decisions? • Did you feel you had an important part to play in making the structure? • What were the advantages or limitations of your leadership structure?
Build a New Tower • This time, choose a leadership structure to use in your group. • Complete the task again (this time your tower will be measured against other towers) • Like before, resources are limited. • You will have 15 minutes to build the greatest tower your group can build.

Reflect…(again) • Now how was your experience under your group’s leadership structure? • Did you feel you had an important part to play in making decisions this time? • Did you feel you had an important part to play in making the structure this time? • What were the advantages or limitations of your leadership structure? • How did your chosen leadership structure compare to your original one? • Was one better or worse? • Why?
