Draft Mission Statement Our mission is to increase the pace and scope of conservation and promote quality land stewardship in our area. We identify and protect contiguous areas of undeveloped land with conservation value that cross town and organizational boundaries.
Other Text from our Case Statement: The Partnership encouragesandenables constructive collaborationwithout interfering with the autonomy of the participating organizations and agencies. We are working together to permanently conserve a connected landscape.
Draft Vision: Elements • Permanently protect valuable/resilient land • Increase to 30% the amount of conserved land in Fairfield County (16% for northern FC) • Repair natural habitats • Regionally integrate land use planning • Increase connectivity • Connect for water, wildlife, and recreation

Strengths of the FCRCP • Member groups - Legacy of accomplishment • Vision & map for N. Fairfield County • FCRCP part of Wildlands & Woodlands Initiative • Large blocks of forest, TNC resiliency focal areas, etc. • High household income, achievement-oriented & looking to engage • Regional orgz have useful data • Others?
Weaknesses of the FCRCP • Aging membership/leadership • No regular activities outside of meetings • Lack of regular communication • No funding; future funding a challenge • Long term viability not assured • Lack of public awareness about conservation/environment • Others?
Opportunities • Land prices low • Public need for answers, e.g. climate change • Linking of Regional Planning Agencies, resiliency areas, urban-suburban-rural open spaces, watersheds • Proximity to NYC • Partnering with Westchester LT and Housatonic Valley Association • Others?
Threats • Possible loss of charitable deduction • Low-density development pushes at fringes of open space • Proximity to NYC • Others?
Next Steps • June 6: Steering Committee to craft draft vision statement, goals and objectives and send to Full Partnership for review prior to our July FCRCP Forum • July Forum: FCRCP members and stakeholders review and add to goal and objectives then prioritize by vote • Schedule Forum…..Should it be in July?
