  3. A shared goal of 1 million more people in the UK cycling regularly by 2013

  4. BRITISH CYCLING AND SKY PARTNERSHIP OVERVIEW

KCC 2012 PARTNERSHIP Aim: To deliver with British Cycling and Sky a mass participation cycling event and a series of 35 led community cycle rides in Kent Objectives: • Attract 5000 participants to a one day Sky Ride Event • To promote the Launch of Cyclo Park as a key cycling facility in Kent and wider afield • To be fully inclusive – cycling for all abilities will be catered for • Promote the benefits of cycling e.g., improved health and wellbeing, low cost transport and reduced congestion and pollution

To promote all aspects of cycling from utility through to sport • Through 35 Sky Ride Local led rides, introduce people to the cycle network of Kent – this will attract a further 1,400 participants approx. • Liaise with local schools and the wider community to maximise the wider benefits of both the event and increased levels of cycling for the whole community • Promote local cycling clubs and social cycling groups • Build on the excitement generated by the build up to the 2012 London Olympics

  9. Ride leader course x20 scheduled for 28th/29th January in Gravesend ( tbc ) • Sky Ride local rides from March ( tbc ) • Supporting projects e.g. Dr. Bikes/bike recycling. Agree – • Borough / District Council Lead Officer • Reserved places for District employees • District promotion of programme through networks and Comm’s channels. • Next steps?
