What is a Motion? • A motion is the orderly way we express our suggestions for doing something or changing something.
Steps in Handling a Motion • 1. Member rises and addresses the chair. • 2. President recognizes the member. • 3. Member makes a motion. • 4. Another member seconds the motion. • 5. President restates the motion.
Steps in Handling a Motion • 6. Members discuss and debate the motion. • 7. President calls for a vote on the motion and members vote. • 8. President announces the result of the vote.
