SRF Sector Update 2017-04-17 • R&D- Vertical Test (VT): cryogenic tests to study effect of low RRR material on surface resistance and magnetic flux trapping; Material Science Lab (MSL): SIMS and PPMS studies ongoing; Dilution Fridge for Quantum Computing Procurement moving forward • One 9-cell and two 1-cell cavities EP processed • One 9-cell newly doped, one 1-cell got 120C nitrogen infusion and one 1-cell had 1300C very long bake-out. • Three 1-cell cavities were assembled in cleanroom • One 1-cell cavity was baseline vertical tested for further R&D activities • LCLS-II: cryomodule 2 moved to CMTF; CM 3, 4, 5 moving forward, CM 6 has 5 cavities qualified • Four 1.3GHz cavities were vertical tested and qualified • One 3.9GHz Cavity was light BCP’d • CM02 was moved to CMTF and being installed. • CM03 is in WS3 stage • CM04 is in WS2 stage • CM05 is in WS0 stage with 7 cavities completed with coupler cold ends • PIP-II: successful P2MAC review; cavity studies moving forward; issues at MDB/LAB2 • One 650 MHz 1-cell cavity was assembled in clean room for vertical test • Two 650 MHz 1-cell cavities were clean room prepared for furnace bake out • One spoke cavity was light BCP processed and assembled in cleanroom for horizontal test Presenter | Presentation Title
Weekly Lab Status for Magnets Sector Summary • LCLS II – SPQA104 shipped to Jefferson Lab. Repair of LCLS-II magnet SPQA105 completed, preparations for cryogenic tests, good progress on the second top head fabrication for Stand 3 • LARP - Vacuum epoxy impregnation of the first 4.2-m, production length coil, QXFA101 is complete. Completed load testing of the new LARP Top Plate assembly, started mechanical and electrical integration for testing of the LARP 2-m long magnet MQXFS1c • Last week the MQXFA1 (1st 4-m long) conductor and coils readiness review was completed. • AS – Preparation for the first coil epoxy impregnation for the Muon g-2 EDWA magnet (spare) is in progress. • Mu2e – Making steady progress on the TS coil module test facility. Completed cryo piping connections, insulation, and electrical instrumentation of Transport Solenoid prototype on dished head #A, for installation into cryostat next week. The SC lab measured the critical current (Ic) of two cable samples for DS solenoid as part of the QA program. • PIPII – Medium Energy Beam Transport (MEBT) triplets received from India (BARC), assembled on the stands, one triplet is ready for magnetic measurements • G-2 – Inflector parts are prepared for winding, tooling is finalized, the delivery of the NbTi shield material from Japan to Fermilab is being discussed. • 15T dipole R&D – Conceptual design studies of 15-16 T dipoles continue – first results on stress management in cos-theta coils were presented at the US Magnet Development Program (MDP)-FCC-EuroCirCol video meeting. Layer 3 winding completed in the first coil • Infrastructure – removing old Tevatron equipment, feeder cables for TeVtest stand power system were disconnected Weekly Lab Status for Magnets Sector
Cryogenic Sector • Organization • Requested meeting with PPD Senior Management for finalize cryogenic expertize consolidation by the end of FY17 • Operations • Shutting down MTA cryogenic system at the end of April, 2017 • NML and CMTF are being prepared for cooldown • VCTF is operational • Projects • LCLS- II Cryogenic Distribution System • Tunnel Transfer line has been delivered to SLAC • Conducting Feed Cap 1 & 2 inspection at SLAC • End Caps are being delivered to SLAC • Started Distribution Box fabrication • Infrastructure upgrades • Dilution refrigerator procurement • Safety • Issued PPMS (MSL) ORC Technical Division – weekly status meeting
