The assessment task • Firstly – “stop panicking”!! • Read the assessment task several times and clearly understand what is being asked • Place the “dot points” into topic areas e.g. All questions which relate to communication; all questions which relate to OHS; also • Dot points which have topic areas which link into each other
Address the report to the Manager of the organisation • Introduce the purpose of the report and provide an overview of what you are providing in the report • Break the report into topic areas and use headings and sub headings • Conclude your report with your recommendations • 1500 words IS NOT A LOT!!!!!!!

Last week we looked at: • The community services sector within Australia, Non-government Organisations, organisational Strategic Plans and Business Plans and organisational vision and mission statements. • Did you find out about your own organisations structure, strategic planning, vision & mission?
Organisation information requirements: • Organisations will have Policies & Procedures for recording, storing and sharing information. • Systems used will be monitored & evaluated to ensure: • correct data input, • Suitable storage processes, • appropriate user access • information integrity.
Organisation information requirements: • Systems used in organisations for information management include: • Personnel management • Financial management • Data collection • Data analysis • Information sharing • Record keeping • eg;- employee files, financial reports & budgets, customer files, policies & procedures, process & task instructions, safety records, client feedback reports, appointments
Organisation information requirements: • Information systems rely on data collected and entered by people, therefore the output can only be as accurate as the data input. • Different people will pay attention to different aspects of information and prioritise differently. Eg. Finance officer : support worker. • It is important that all users have input into design and use of the systems used. • Ease of use, capacity, capability, cost, upgrades, support, integrity, outputs.
Coordinate the work environment: • What are some of the barriers for good work performance and outcomes? • Work processes • Time • Poor communication • Inadequate induction / training • Most of these barriers can be reduced by setting clear and agreed goals = planning. • Planning and goal setting can be improved by considering: • Client feedback including complaints • Staff perspective – they are doing the job day to day
Coordinate the work environment: • What would be included in a good orientation and induction process for new staff? • Information to support the induction process includes: • Job description • Policies & procedures • Code of conduct • Communication systems • Performance appraisals • Employers must meet legislative requirements for all employees – Work health & Safety; discrimination; harassment, etc.
Coordinate the work environment: • Good leadership will promote cooperative work practices and maintain positive relationships is the workplace. • Leadership requires: • flexibility and open mindedness • Setting of clear and achievable goals - involving all • Cooperative relationships – built on trust, reliability and consistency • Ability to manage differences of opinions or ideas • Delegation – knowing your staffs strengths & weaknesses
Coordinate the work environment • A good leader takes responsibility for their own behaviour. • This is done by knowing your own strengths and weaknesses – • Self awareness • Self regulation • Self motivation • Social awareness • Social skills • A good leader is also a good role model
