De-clouding Sea Surface Temperatures Data Processing • SST is examined on a per-pixel basis to determine if cloud contamination is • present. A series of 3 tests are performed and a mask value is assigned • to each pixel denoting the results. • Test 1: SST fails time test if > 2degC cooler than previous 72-hours mean • Test 2: SST fails climatology if > 5degC colder than climatology • Test 3: SST is sequentially run through time and climatology tests; neighboring • pixels within 3km will also fail if test is not passed • Mask Values (can be additive): • 0: Most rigorous, pixel passes all tests • 1: Pixel failed the time test • 2: Pixel failed the climatology test • 4: Pixel failed combined testing • Suitable data is selected based on the desired mask value.
