What was the goal of the romans? The Romans wanted to conquer as many lands around the Mediterranean Sea.
Notes: The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire At first Rome was ran by a king.
Republic: power rests with the citizens of the country to for their leaders.
Roman citizens voted for 2 leaders (Consuls) instead of just 1. But there were senators to keep the 2 leaders in check.
Julius Caesar 100 B.C. to 44 B.C. Will become the 1st Caesar.
Augustus Caesar 63 B.C. to 14 A.D. Empire: power rests with the emperor of the country.
Under Augustus’s rule there was a time of peace and prosperity. Pax Romana (Roman Peace)

Soldiers stop being loyal to the government and follow individual leaders. People stop being loyal to their government.
Emperor Diocletian Decides to split the Empire into two parts because it is getting too big to control by himself.
