Integrated Learning Curriculum and Materials • Spalding : Phonogram daily practice • Spelling (30) Words Weekly • Grammar: parts of speech/sentence structure/punctuation Saxon Math: • Facts and Concepts • Math Meeting for every day application English Language Arts (ELA): • Journeys anthology focus on retell and text analysis • Write From The Beginning/Thinking Maps • Speaking/Listing: Poem Recitation Quarterly/oral presentations • Social sciences incorporated
Homework • Homework is collected in the morning • Please sign the homework after student completes it and reviewed with a parent. • If student forgets homework, it is completed for bell work in class. • Weekly homework grade is a 12 point completion grade • Homework includes a minimum of 15 minutes of reading per night. • 3 points per night (1 complete, 1 correct 1 on time: next day. (if absent extra days are given)
Spelling Procedures Monday: Students enter ten words; test on ten words. Tuesday: Students enter ten more words; test on first twenty. Wednesday: Students enter ten more words; test on last twenty. Thursday: Students are given a practice test on all words.

Grades • Student work is scored with a number grade with points and will be recorded in the grade book and averaged for a final quarter grade (in percentage/ letter grade form). • We are a paperless school. Please monitor your child’s progress through the parent portal. • Progress Reports and Report Cards are also paperless, and should be monitored throughout the quarter in the parent portal.
Accelerated Reader Program Begins second quarter. More information will be sent out at that time. Personal goal to read and answer comprehension questions. Students cannot retake tests.

Homework recap • Homework slips completed and signed • Daily homework packet completed • Library books brought to school daily • Weekly folders returned, signed on Monday Student work is sent home in their weekly folder. Please view the work, sign the folder log sheet and keep all graded classwork, returning only the folder on the next school day. READING every night is most important.
FAQ’s Birthdays • Birthday celebrations will be held during the morning recess or end of day depending on the day’s schedule. You may bring in store bought treats to share with the whole class (21 students) Please: Respect any allergies listed in newsletter. Snack • Snack time is 9:45 during morning recess. We encourage nutritious snacks. Lunch is at 11:15

Reminders from Mrs. Druck • Gym shorts, basketball shorts are not allowed even if the shorts are the right color. Please follow hair and clothes guidelines in the handbook • Read and sign the handbook for all school related policies and questions. • Please follow the assigned traffic patterns.
Tax Credit • First grade field trips are supported by tax credit donations. Please consider supporting our school with your donations; which are done this year through the parent portal only. No monetary donations come through the classroom teacher. Thank you!
Conclusion • In first grade, students gain and improve the foundational skills they need to become great readers and mathematicians. Their language becomes more expressive, and they begin to focus on math problems with real-life applications. Among other things, they learn about spelling conventions, geometry, money, time and sentence structure. It is also a year of social growth. Your support and enthusiasm fosters the life long love of learning. I look forward to partnering with you this year.
