  1. 10-3 Learning Target • I can assess whether a narrator is reliable or unreliable. • Essential Question: How do narrators function within a text?

  2. EOC Predictor Quiz • This is an independent activity. • You will have 5 minutes to complete these 3 questions. • These quizzes are not only part of your overall grade, but will also be used to determine who needs standards recovery intervention.

  3. Independent Reading • As you read, think about your opinion of your narrator—what do you think about them? • Reader Response: Do you find your narrator to be trustworthy? Can you fully believe everything they say? Are they baised in any way? Why or why not?

  4. Reliable vs Unreliable • Reliable narrator: a narrator who is trustworthy • Unreliable narrator: a narrator whose credibility has been compromised for some reason

  5. Read Aloud • “The Color Purple” • “Speak” p. 24-29

  6. Work Period • In your journal, create a T-chart in which you list evidence showing how the narrator seems reliable AND how the narrator could be unreliable.

  7. Closing Response/Reflection • Closing: Based on the evidence in your T-chart, make a claim that the narrator of the text is either reliable or unreliable. • Reflection: Give me some good news. In 3 complete sentences, tell me one good thing that’s happening for you right now—school, sports, life in general. 
