SACS No Transportation Zones Update: 2014. Goal. To align and u pdate SACS “No Transportation Zones” Or NTZ’s. Why?.
E N D
Goal • To align and update SACS “No Transportation Zones” Or NTZ’s
Why? • Fiscal Responsibility: At a time when many districts are planning to eliminate all transportation services because of budget cuts, SACS is being fiscally proactive and more efficient • Fairness: We enforce No Transportation Zones at three of our elementary schools • Fitness: Research supports that when parents enable students to walk/ ride a bike to school, they are healthier, calmer and more alert
No Transportation Zone Guidelines • Elementary: one mile • Middle School: 1.5 miles • High School: 1.5 miles *Guidelines based upon common practices
Current SACS No Transportation Zones • HES, WMES and DRES currently have established NTZ’s
Proposed Future NTZ’s: 2014-15 • Summit 1.5 radius • Homestead 1.5 radius • Both schools will have the same NTZ
Proposed Future NTZ’s: 2015-16 • WMS • CES • AES
Woodside • WMS does not currently have a NTZ • WMS has adjoining paths to and from school • Work will be done to refurbish current paths to area subdivisions • A NTZ will begin at the beginning of the 2015 school year once the infrastructure is complete
Covington • Covington does not currently have a NTZ • A sidewalk will be constructed to join existing sidewalks • A NTZ will begin at the beginning of the 2015 school year once the infrastructure is complete
Other SACS Consideration for NTZ • Aboite • LME
Aboite Elementary • AES does not currently have a NTZ • AES does not currently have adjoining paths to and from school • School officials will investigate the possibility of creating an infrastructure to connect paths
LME • LME does not currently have a NTZ • LME is a rural area with one adjoining path to and from school • No current infrastructure is in place for a NTZ • We will look at LME in the future as the infrastructure changes
