Budget Cuts • What we’ve already done • Cut budget more than $13 million since 2007 • Reduced staff by more than half • Four reductions in force since Jan 2008 • From peak of 296 to 145 now • Increased permitting fees – June 2009 • First time in 20 years • Consolidated office space (saved $$$) • Moved Code Enforcement to Monroe Street • Reduced Building Inspections space
Budget Cuts • 80 reduction in force • 12 early out • 59 held vacant, then cut • Current Budget – $17.9 million • Current positions – 145 • Positions – down 51% from 2007 peak • Fewer positions than year 2000
Major Issues • Planning • EAR update due in 18 months (major task) • Implementation of HB697 • Do we update entire plan or just do the basic EAR requirements? • Implementation of DR/GR & Lehigh Acres (2-year commitment) • Community planning • Comp Plan and LDC amendments • North Fort Myers, Alva, North Olga & others • Planning staff reduced by half • Staff cross-training (zoning staff – comp plan amendments, implementation of community plans) • Possible additional budget needs
