Importance of Nervous System • The nervous system is important because it coordinates and controls the whole body. • Also controls every thought, action, and emotion that you have. • Without our nervous system you wouldn't be able to feel anything even pain.
Components of Nervous System • The nervous system is composed of the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system. • The central nervous system is the spinal cord and the brain • The peripheral nervous system is made made mostly of nerves extending from the brain and spinal cord
Central Nervous System • Your central nervous system analyses information from the sensory organs. • That’s why we can see, touch, taste, smell, and hear.
Peripheral Nervous System • All other nerves that aren’t in the central nervous system are in the peripheral. • It has 12 pairs of cranial nerves and 31 pairs of nerves that extend from the spine. • PNS carries nerve impulses from the CNS to all other sensory locations in the body.
Somatic Nervous System • The peripheral nervous system is mainly made up of neurons that are connected with your muscles, skin, and sensory organs.
Autonomic Nervous System • Part of the PNS that is a control system which maintains homeostasis in the body. • “ANS effects heart rate, respiration rate, salivation, perspiration, diameter of the pupils, micturition, and erection.
Sympathetic & Parasympathetic Nervous System • These are parts of the autonomic nervous system. • All three systems work together to maintain function of your heart frequency and capacity, kidneys, blood vessels, stomach, and intestines.
Effect of Drugs and Alcohol • Alcohol is absorbed through the stomach and doesn’t need to be digested, so it goes directly through the digestive system. • Your liver is responsible for getting rid of toxins from your bloodstream. • Until your rid of those toxins, your brain still won't function 100% properly.
