Problems of Our Interest in Korean Society Area: Environment Waste of left-over (new but near-expiration date) food in restaurants, grocery stores, convenience stores, etc. Area: Society / Social Welfare Homeless people do not have enough food • Waste of resources • Lack of a distribution system • Inefficiency in our society

  3. Deeper Information about the Problems How much food is thrown away? . • 17000 ton/day in Korea. Increasing every year • 14% of all food. Worth 25 trillion won • Convenience stores throw away food near expiration date; A hotel in Korea fills up five 180L buckets a day; 5% of 0.9 million train bentos goes to trash • How many homeless people in Seoul? • Nationwide: 13262 homeless people • Seoul: 4734 homeless people, • among them 964 don’t have a regular place to stay Source: 홈리스정책연구센터
