Let’s Get Started! 5 easy steps to GROW YOUR SALE • Planyour program and Set Goals • Motivate your Scouts with INCENTIVES! • Build your best Popcorn Kickoffever! • Constantly Communicatewith Scouts and parents • Use the best ways to Selland achieve your goal!
#1 Plan Your Program • Go to page 21 of your IYOS Book or • the Virtual Sale Planner at sell.trails-end.com • Build your plan using the Budget Planner • Plan • Budget • Set Goals • On the Virtual Sale Planner, you can fill in your number of boys, commission and activities per month with costs. • The planner does the rest!
#1 Plan Your Program Crucially important for your Unit to have a Successful Sale. Scouting should be FUN and EXCITING, with lots of activities, camp, etc. It’s Camping It’s Activities It’s Advancement It’s Equipment It’s what they want to do!
#1 Plan Your Program • IDEAL YEAR OF SCOUTING • Pack holds a “Brainstorming session” with their Scouts AND parents are given a survey to find out what the boys “want” to do. • Pack Committee should whittle down the ideas from the brainstorming session – to discard ideas that aren’t feasible. • Build a complete list of exciting program ideas to present to youth and Scouting families at next Pack Meeting. • At next Pack Meeting, boys are given stickers (1st, 2nd, 3rd) to place next to, or vote for, their favorite program ideas. • Pack Committee finalizes their Program, based on results of their youth vote / parent surveys. • A complete Pack Budget is determined, based on new Program, equipment, etc. costs and then shared with parents.
#1 Plan Your Program • IF Units do the IDEAL YEAR OF SCOUTING correctly, they will: • Retain more of their members AND attract more new members • Send more Scouts to all the different camping opportunities • Train more volunteer leaders / have more parental support • Spend less time fundraising and more time having FUN in a robust Scouting Program • Fundraise less often, but more efficiently and even increase FOS • Enjoy a full, fresh, and exciting Scouting Program – and have it be FREE to their Scouting families!

Take Order Scouts use an order form (in the family guide) to go door-to-door or sell to family and friends. • Establish your dates – take order sales typically start immediately after kickoff. • Determine sales territory • Create a “Blitz Day” to have Dens sell as a group activity • Have parent(s) take an order form to work REMEMBER! Two out of three people will buy when asked, but less than 20% of households have been contacted.
Show N Sell Make arrangements for Scouts to set up in front of stores to sell. • Ask store manager for permission several weeks in advance • Assign Scouts (2-3) and parents in two hour blocks • DO NOT open up microwave boxes • Divide sales equally among Scouts who participate • Use leftover product to fulfill take order needs • Apply donations received towards your military sales
Show N Sell Last year, units that participated in Show & Sell sold 22% more popcorn that those units who did not participate in Show & Sell! 22% more than 2011 sales
Show N Sell • More Tips for Success: • Do not use a table or chairs. Tables are barriers between you and the consumer. • Hand out flyers that tell people about your Unit and what activities you do, how you help the community, etc. • Tape pieces of paper to each product that has a phone number / email so they can buy more when they run out • DON’T ask for donations! People will give those to you anyway, and asking for them will decrease your sales • Stack boxes to display product. Hang up posters/pictures of your boys doing Scouting activities and helping the community.
Display not blocking doorway and area is kept clean Sign showing Scouting activities Thank you And re-order Cards to hand to consumers Class A uniform Product stacked neatly Standing in front of table
Online Selling Scouts sell to far-away friends and family Trail’s End ships the product directly to the consumer. • Everyone needs to create a new account to view and sell online at sell.trails-end.com • Online sales COUNT toward Scout Rewards!(starting August 1 through your council’s fall sale end date) • Get 100% of your Scouts to create an account and send 10 emails to family and friends • The average online order is $48

A confirmation email will verify your email address as valid. • Once in, you’ll be at your Unit’s “Homepage” and can then enter your Unit’s popcorn order from the “Orders” menu along the top. • Follow the same process for ordering your Unit’s prizes. • You will receive confirmation emails whenever you submit an order • The system has more functionality if you want to use it – such as tracking sales, goals and prizes by individual Scout and printing packing slips that shows how much each Scout is to receive, etc.
Login to the “Popcorn System” You will be supplied with your “username” (email address) and “password” by the council.
Your Unit’s “Homepage” From your Unit’s “Homepage” you can click on the triangle next to “Orders” menu along the top (or on the word, “Orders” itself) to place your product and prize orders when ready. The “Scouts” menu option allows you to manage Scouts, goals, sales by Scout (if you want)
