  8. Glass Study 2010 • DSM Environmental analyzed five strategies for recovery of additional glass • Not meant to be the answer to the question of cost and benefits but rather away for us to prioritize strategies

  9. Five Strategies • Expansion of single stream (60,000 tons); • Voluntary glass recycling programs for bars and restaurants (53,000 tons); • Source separated collection of glass drop-off locations (14,400 tons) • Plate glass collection • Forced Deposits

  10. Leading up… • Glass Stakeholders convened • 2010 MOU – Owens Illinois and Rumpke • Glass collection pilots Marion County – Glass Act Hamilton County – Downtown Cincinnati • Regional Glass Meetings – SW & NW

  11. So far… • State grants focused on glass • Processing – SI & Rumpke • Expanded Curbside Recycling – Single Stream • Modernization of MRFs • Developed new partnerships – Ohio Mulch

  12. Statewide Initiative • Voluntary Bar & Restaurant Recycling; • Establish 9 regional Glass Act Recovery Centers (transfer stations/glass depots) in Ohio - linked to processors; • Create Glass Act Recycling Drop offs – located in existing drop off areas (Ripple Glass model) • $1 million
