  3. Perception • How does each constituency view the problem? • Ask questions – what do the administrators, parents, teachers of the gifted, regular education teachers, students think? • Listen to all viewpoints • Be sure that everyone has a chance to be heard

  4. Definition • Clear statement of the problem(s). • Defining the problem narrows the boundaries of the problem • Determine who, what, where, when, why and how • Do you need more information? • Is there extra information that may be confusing the issue?

  5. Analysis • History of the problem – how did it become an issue? • Gifted Education in New Mexico • Diagrams, pictures and other visual representations can be helpful

  6. Alternative Generation • Brainstorming ideas and solutions • What are your student’s needs? • What is currently being done? • What can be done differently? Remember to think creatively and “ outside the box”.

  7. Evaluation • Examine the options and evaluate according to a set criteria. Rank the solutions. • What are your criteria? • Budget • Time • Staffing/Caseloads • Identified needs • Look for obstacles, contributors • Who needs to be included in this decision?

  8. Decision Making • What needs to be done, timelines, resources responsibilities and evaluation. • Action Plan

  9. Implementation A plan is just a piece of paper until it is implemented
