This guide provides the preliminary steps for students to get started with CourseMaster for Records Management, including locating and registering their Access Code, creating a Single-Sign-On (SSO) account, and accessing their course materials.

CourseMaster for Records Management Getting Started for Students
Preliminary Steps • Locate your Access Code. If you purchased CourseMaster from the bookstore, your Access Code is inside the CourseMaster booklet. Option: purchase it at www.CengageBrain.com • If you do not have a single-sign on account (SSO), go to www.cengagebrain.comorhttp://login.cengagebrain.com
Locate Student User’s Guide • Go to www.cengage.com/officetech/read. • Download and print the Student User’s Guide. Details are available for getting started and various question types.
Single-Sign On Account (SSO) • Go to http://login.cengagebrain.com to register for the online course. • Register as a new user or log in if you already have a SSO account.
Creating an SSO Account • Register and complete the form to establish an SSO account.
Paste Student Access Code • Once you have established an SSO account, Copy and Paste your Access Code for CouseMaster for Records Management; it is found inside the printed booklet you purchased.
Paste Course Key • Copy the Course Key provided by your instructor where shown.
Open the Course • Once your student access code is registered, your course will display. • Click Open.
Read the Opening Screen • This information will display each time you log on. • Click Lessons tab to begin.
Table of Contents—Lesson Tab The TOC for the entire course displays. Click Chapter 1.
Exercise Tip #1 • Click the exercise number in the left navigation to open the exercise. • Read the directions carefully—they vary by activity.
Exercise Tip #2 • Click Submit button at the bottom of the exercise when completed. • Incorrect answers are flagged. Click Rule to review the rule, click Try Again, and resubmit. • Indexing must be 100% correct before you can alphabetize the names when alphabetizing is required.
Exercise Tip 3 • Whenever you are alphabetizing a group of cards, drag the first card to the lower left edge of the screen—this is position 1. Move the next card behind it. When column 1 is full, move the next card to the bottom of column 2.
Exercise Tip #4—Key to Index • Whenever you index by keying a name, each letter must be keyed correctly; spelling counts; capitalization does not count as an error. • Do not key punctuation marks as they are not an indexing unit. • Close up space between words within a single indexing unit. For example: Key InAndOut for the name In-And-Out
Exercise Tip #5—Report Sheets: Simulation • Directions for the Simulation Report Sheets maybe incorrect. If you get a mistake by keying just the card number, key both the card number and name in the correct indexing order (e.g. punctuation and spaces removed in names).
Student Reports • Click Report tab to view various reports. Set drop settings as shown in either of the two illustrations. • Click Run. • The points per exercise display. You will not see the actual answers—only the points.
Complete Assignments • Select the exercise you want to complete. • Follow the directions on screen. • Once an activity is completed, click Submit. You will receive feedback on incorrect answers and points for each completed activity. • Display the Reports to see points for each completed activity. • Read the CourseMaster Student Guide for further details, which is available for download at www.cengage.com/officetech/read.
