Review for Unit Test • Catalyst • What are two similarities between photosynthesis and cellular respiration? • What are two differences between mitosis and meiosis? Write in complete sentences! Don’t talk during the Catalyst!
Objectives By the end of today, SWBAT… • MASTER the four cellular processes! • Kick Ms. Stroh’s butt tomorrow!
Review Photosynthesis and cellular respiration!!! • Our first topic is…
Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration • 6CO2 + 6H2O + sunlight C6H12O6 + 6O2 • C6H12O6 + 6O2 6CO2 + 6H2O + ATP
6CO2 + 6H2O + sunlight C6H12O6 + 6O2C6H12O6 + 6O2 6CO2 + 6H2O + ATP Photosynthesis Water + Carbon Dioxide Glucose + Oxygen Cellular Respiration Energy (ATP)
Quiz, Quiz, Trade! • You have 15 minutes to quiz as many partners as possible • Answer each other’s review questions • Guide the other person to the answer • Trade questions • Hands up, clap up! • Find a new partner • QQT questions just might be on the test tomorrow… • If you don’t participate, it’s your bad…
Review Phases of mitosis and meiosis!!! • Our second topic is…
Cell Phases • Interphase • Prophase • Metaphase • Anaphase • Telophase
Cell Phases – Mitosis • Telophase: • Interphase: • Interphase: • Prophase: • Metaphase: • Anaphase: Time in between cell divisions. At end of interphase, chromosomes double. Sister chromatids (the duplicated chromosomes) attach to one another. Sister chromatids line up in the center of cell (called the metaphase plate) Time in between cell divisions. Spindles pull sister chromatids apart, to opposite ends of the cell. Cleavage furrow forms, “pinching” cell in half
Cell Phases – Meiosis • Meiosis has two parts • Meiosis 1: genetic information switched, cells divide • Meiosis 2: cells divide ONE MORE TIME
Choices • Your classwork grade today is based on you completing one of the following: • A foldable about mitosis, meiosis, or their differences • A poem/rap song about the phases of mitosis • 8 possible test questions (with answers!) that you will present to the class
Review Products of mitosis and meiosis!!! • Our third topic is…
Mitosis • Mitosis goes through PMAT one time. • Therefore, it produces two cells. • Each of these cells is exactly the same. • Since all somatic cells are 2N, and the cells produced by mitosis are exactly the same as the original cell, the cells produced by mitosis are 2N.
Meiosis • Meiosis goes through PMAT two times. • Therefore, it produces four cells. • Each of these cells is different. • Each gamete is different because in meiosis 1 some genetic information gets switched between chromosomes. This is why you do not look exactly like your relatives. • Each gamete has half as much DNA as the original germ cell. So, each cell is only 1N.

Review Packet • If you completed half of the review packet last night… • Good work! You get an answer key! • Check your answers, and ask me questions. • If you did not complete half of the review packet last night… • You can work on it now, and ask me questions. • No answer key, sorry. Do your work next time.
Exit Question • What is one thing you still do not understand? Write in complete sentences! Don’t talk during the Catalyst!
