  3. How strongholds affect us Causes Distraction Opens a doorway for the enemy

  4. How strongholds affect us 1) Opens a doorway for the enemy – Kill, steal & destroy (Spiritual Apathy) 2) Causes Distraction – wasting God’s resources, deviates from His plans & purpose 3) Brings generational curse - Micah

  5. Saul’s strongholds1 Sam 15:3, 7-12

  6. 1.) Self Governing – Self as the king (vs12). God is there, but when decisions are made, He failed to be consulted. Presumptuous attitude causes an overwriting of authority, stepping out of boundaries. Wants to control.

  7. Rebelliousness (vs 10) – I think this is right for me, I am going to do it, no matter what God or others say. b) Independent spirit (vs20-21) – My way is better, why do I need to bother to ask for opinion or permission? It will only slow me down. • No regard for other people’s feelings or things

  8. c) Insecurity (vs24-27) – Rejects others’ input, does not see own need, blame shifting. d) Stubborn (vs 20) – stiff-necked even when truth is told

  9. 2.) Greed / selfishness (vs 9) • Fear of lose – keeps us from giving ourselves wholly to God. Becomes lukewarm. b) Stops the blessing of abundance – Full hands are hard to take in more.

  10. 1 Sam 18:5-12 3) Pride • Deceives us (vs10) – Saul prophesying, next minute tried to kill David b) Judgmental attitude ( vs 8) – Puts ourselves in the place of God

  11. c) Annoyance and irritability (vs 8) – Inability to tolerate others presence d) Competitive spirit (vs12) – Fear the success of others, puts others down, make others feel and look bad, holy-gossips

  12. Pulling Down the Strongholds • See the seriousness of sin – take up authority, put Agag to death (1 Sam 15:33) 2) Live a repentant and watchful life – No one is immune, ask God to reveal and redeem

  13. 3) God-centeredness – building on our relationship with God, hunger like Moses 4) Holy Spirit empowers us to live for God – His law not religiosity or burdensome.
