  3. Small Mouth Bass Physical Appearance- Generally brown with red eyes, dark brown vertical bands along the side. Habitat- Found in cooler and clearer water than the largemouth with rocky areas and stumps they also sustain in sandy bottoms of lakes and reservoirs. Diet- mostly fish (darters, minnows, yellow perch, sunfishes, and others) and crayfish Size- 1.5-3 lbs, up to 12 lbs

  4. Large Mouth Bass Physical Appearance- Olive green fish, marked by a series of dark, sometimes black, blotches forming a jagged horizontal stripe along each flank. Habitat- Found in slow moving water. Includes creeks, streams, ponds and lakes. Diet- almost any thing that can fit in its mouth. Size- 3-10 lbs, up to 20 lbs

  5. Flathead Catfish Physical Appearance- Light yellow color with brown on the sides and back. “Flat head” Habitat- Prefer to hide in caves, crevices, and logs with the adults being solitary fish. Diet- Consists entirely of fish-shad, carp, suckers, sunfish, largemouth bass and other catfish (including their own kind). Size- 50-100+ lbs

  6. Yellow Bullhead Physical Appearance- Light yellow to an olive green color and many are mottled. Habitat- As bottom feeders, the Yellowhead Catfish likes deep water. Diet- Omnivorous- feeding on a variety of plant and animal material, both live and dead. Size- 2-4 lbs

  7. Blue Catfish Physical Appearance- Blue in color and has a forked tail.  Habitat- Prefers to stay in large rivers and in the summer while looking for cool waters, they often swim upstream.  Diet- eat fish and large invertebrates. Size- 20-40 can get up to 100lbs

Channel Catfish Physical Appearance- This particular catfish can be more of an olive brown color or a slate blue with interesting black on the sides. “spots” Habitat- Large streams that have slow moving water Diet- Opportunistic omnivore, gorging itself on nearly any form of living or dead material. Size- 20-40 lbs

  9. Bluegill Physical Appearance- Deep, robust, and cichlid-like. The mouth is small and the front of the dorsal fin is spiny as it is in all other sunfish. This is a very fish-like fish. Habitat- Schooling fish, Clear Water and vegetation Diet- larger invertebrates and aquatic and terrestrial insects in t. Bluegill are sight feeders and feed primarily during daylight hours. Size- > 1lbs

  10. Crappie Physical Appearance- dark olive to black on top, with silvery sides and black blotches and stripes. The pattern of the dark blotches is different. Habitat- Prefer clearer water Diet- smaller species of fish, including the young of their own predators (which include the northern Pike, Muskellunge and Walleye) Size- ½- 1lbs

Independent work • On a sheet of notebook paper, create a double bubble map comparing and contrasting the differences between Largemouth bass and Smallmouth bass. • 3 differences for each fish, and 3 similarities! • All information must be factual & accurate! • Once completed, turn in the work to me.
