Maintains healthy elk populations throughout the state that are managed within habitat capabilities and in consideration of other land uses. • Elk hunt management strategies such as spike only units and limited entry hunts were developed to establish a hierarchy to herd bulls.
In this slide it shows only the regions and the elk habitat also there is no breakdown of the layout of the state. Really hard to tell where the regions are compared to county or land boundaries.
Added topography to map plus named the regions and added the state estimated elk herd population along with the population objective.
Also added the cooperative wildlife management units. It is private land which the owners allow the hunters through the wildlife management unit to hunt and help reduce the elk herd population in certain areas.
