Finnish Geoportal • Motivation • INSPIRE directive: establish an infrastructure for spatial information in Europe • EU and national legislation: >400 public authorities obliged in Finland >100 spatial data sets from 34 data themes involved in Finland • Goals • Provide guidance for INSPIRE implementation • Provide INSPIRE Discovery Service • Demonstrate the potential of Spatial Data Infrastructure

Finnish Geoportal • Pilot project 2008-2010 • First production release out in June 2010 • Project management at NLS Finland • Four software developers hired from private companies • Several production releases planned 2010-2011 • User interface design and ongoing usability evaluation by private companies • Open Source implementation • Expected total cost 1 Meur 2008-2011
