INTRODUCTION • Indonesian is a huge archipelagic state • The total area of this territory is ​​nearly 2 million km2 • Prosperous in natural resources and biodiversity • has big potency of natural resources on both at sea  and on land • The world’s fourth most populous country • Diversity in resources, social- economic and culture among regions How to obtain information for sustainable and equal development? the State with large area, large natural resources and human resources

The Sea Part of Indonesia • Islands: ± 13.466 islands with a coastline 108,000 km (2nd longest coastline in the world after Canada). • Under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) 1982, Indonesia has sovereignty over the waters covering an area of 3.2 million km2, consist of: • archipelagic waters: 2.9 million km2 • territorial sea area: 0.3 million km2.  • In addition Indonesia also has the exclusive right to exploit marine resources and related interests in an area of 2.7 km2 EEZ waters (up to 200 miles from baselines).   5. The Land Part of Indonesia It is composed of: • Forest area: 113 million ha • productive rice fields: 9.9 million ha • plantations earning : 15.5 million • 60 prospective basins of oil and gas mineral resources.

  6. BIODIVERSITY • Flora and fauna: 10 % of the world • Mammals: 12 % of the world • Reptile and amphibians: 16 % of the world • Birds: 17 % of the world • Marine and fresh water fish: 25 % of the world

REGIONAL ECONOMIC Current condition of Economic Region • The distribution of natural resources and human resources are not evenly distributed,  differ among regions. • Inequality implications of the existence of both these resources are due to the level of infrastructure service area serving the needs of regions and communities, particularly isolated areas and left behind • Needs to map the condition of natural resources as well as human resources in each region • The regional program is depend on the potential condition of each region/ province or district

REGIONAL ECONOMIC STRATEGY FOR EQUALITY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: • Optimizing utilization of natural and human resources need policy intervention • Need to strengthen the basis for the life of the people's economy through development efforts based on local resources (resource-based development).  • oceans and land resources at this time encouraged their utilization, as one of the mainstay for national economic recovery.
