THE DANGEROUS SEA BY RUSSELL LAYFIELD ILLUSTRATED BY RICHARD McGILLIVRAY
One dark night a long time ago, A goat called Garth and his friend Hippo,
Went out in a boat and lost their way, Didn’t come back until the next day.
The wind blew hard, The sea was rough, But they both thought, They were safe enough.
Although after a while, And far too quick, The sailors two began to feel sick.
The boat went up, and the boat went down, Garth and Hippo thought they would drown…
“You’re too fat!” “You’re too thin!” “Oh, let’s sit in the middle …” “Before we fall in.”
Then all of a sudden there was a loud crack ! Now there were two boats, a front and a back !
“Oh dear, oh dear, what shall we do? We went out in one boat and now we have two.”
They swam and they paddled, They splashed and they screamed, They had some luck more than they dreamed.
A passing ferry had seen the two, Sailed across and made a rescue.
