California State University Lower Division Transfer Pattern by Major(LDTP) (a.k.a. “45-15”)
Background • LDTP: • Streamlines transfer path (Senate Bill 1785, 2004) • LDTP is optional: one of many paths to transfer • Creates a standardized lower-division major prep curriculum within the CSU system. • Gives priority admissions to CCC students completing LDTP
Multiple Paths to Transfer OPTIONAL ADMISSION PROGRAMS: • LDTP: (patterns effective Fall 2007) • Prior to earning 45 units • Dual Admission (effective Fall 2007) • Prior to earning 30 units • Campus-Based TAAs/TAGs • Typically after 30+ transferable units OR • Meet minimum transfer admission requirements for nonimpacted majors and nonimpacted campuses
LDTP Option • Statewide Courses(usually 45 semester units) • Lower Division General Education (39 units) • Lower Division Major Prerequisite Courses (6 units) • CAN as foundation • Campus-Specific Courses-(usually 15 semester units) Statewide + Campus-Specific = LDTP
State-wide Units CSU GE or IGETC State-wide Units Major Prep Campus Specific Major Prep Total Units 39 + 6 + 15 = 60 LDTP (45-15) Snapshot “Junior Level Transfer” (60 units)
Advantages of LDTP • Students will complete prior to transfer • For most majors, all lower division general education courses • For most majors, all lower division pre-major courses • Most direct path to the degree • Student knows which courses need to be completed • Reduces duplicate or unnecessary courses • Students able to track progress in meeting admission and pre-major requirements • Priority admission
Next Steps • Statewide courses disseminated by June 2005 and articulated statewide by June 2006 • Campus-specific courses disseminated by June 2006 and articulated by June 2007 • Next set of majors identified • Systemwide courses articulated by June 1, 2007 • Campus-specific courses articulated by June 1, 2008 • CSU Transfer Course Number System (replacing CAN) • Faculty-driven, staff-facilitated process will assign numbers • Stored in ASSIST and linked to CSUMentor, www.californiacolleges.edu, and other sites
LDTP Concerns • LDTP is great in theory, especially in terms of having some consistent Lower Division major prep across CSU. • Adds layers to an already complex process. • Transfer agreements already done with many 4 year colleges. • Upper division transfers already given priority admissions consideration. • Students must declare a major and campus early (prior to completing 45 units). The earlier you sign-up, the better! • Students can only have ONE LDTP (with one campus) at a time. • CSU has not mentioned who will help manage LDTP/Dual Admissions. • CSU still working out the details, especially for impacted programs like Nursing--which are problematic. • Good articulation is and will continue to be key!
Counselor FYI • Become familiar with LDTP (MOU and approved majors list) • LDTP: http://www.calstate.edu/AcadAff/ldtp.shtml • Remember: Scheduled Implementation—Fall 2007 • Keep in Mind: LDTP is one of many paths for students
