Your assignment-MAP EXPANSION • Map the spread of Islam beginning with the prophet Muhammad, and the choosing of Abu Bakr being named caliph after his death- through the Ummayad, Abbasid, Seljuk Turkish take over of the Abbasid Empire and the Mongol Invaders • Map the rise and spread of the Ottoman and Safavid Empires

  4. Your Assignment part 2- Information • What did each group accomplish, what made them unique? How did they operate and organize their kingdoms? What caused their rise in power and what caused their downfall? • The rise of Islamic Empire, Umayyads, Abbasids, Seljuks, Mongols, Ottomans, and Safavids • Were there any major accomplishments or events during the rule of these groups? • Add this information to your posters • Please read the special sections on pg. 92, 202, 241, 246-47

  5. Step by Step • 1- research the rise of Muhammad, the expansion of Islam during his life, as well as the expansion that took place under the first caliphs that came after his death. Why was Islam able to expand so quickly? • 2 – research the rise and fall of the Umayyad dynasty. • 3- the Abbasid • 4 -Map this expansion, (tasks 1-3) • 5- add information about the rise of early Islam, the Umayyads, and Abbasids onto the map • 6- add the Seljuk Turks and the Mongols
