Presentation Overview About ACRP and TRB Research Areas Research Cycle IdeaHub ACRP Research Studies Upcoming Research Ways to Get Involved Association of California Airports - 2019
Association of California Airports - 2019 Transportation Research Board One of seven program units of the National Academies Promotes innovation and progress in transportation through research and information exchange Administers several Cooperative Research Programs, including ACRP Oversees 200+ standing committees and task forces
Association of California Airports - 2019 ACRP Today 600+ research projects authorized since 2006 • More than 420 ACRP-produced resources are readily available to industry practitioners 700+ industry volunteers participating • Participants come from airports, airlines, consulting firms, academia, state and federal government agencies, and industry associations
ACRP Research Areas An industry-driven, applied research program that develops near-term, practical solutions to airport challenges Driven by and for the airport industry Authorized by Congress; sponsored by FAA Research is conducted by contractors Volunteer panels develop scope, select contractors, oversee research, and review results The ACRP Oversight Committee reviews, selects, and funds projects Special Projects Association of California Airports - 2019
ACRP Research Cycle ACRP IdeaHub Association of California Airports - 2019
Association of California Airports - 2019 IdeaHub IdeaHub fosters collaboration to help grow ideas into high-quality problem statements Anyone can add a research idea and view, vote, and comment on others’ ideas Idea Owners guide ideas through development and submit problem statements Subject matter experts can volunteer and serve as Idea Mentors
Association of California Airports - 2019 IdeaHub Idea Owners and the IdeaHub community refine ideas into problem statements ACRP “harvests” problem statements annually (on March 20th) Problem statements undergo industry evaluation The AOC ultimately selects problem statements to fund that: • Are relevant and valuable to many airports • Are technically feasible • Address a research gap • Produce results that can be easily implemented
Five Ways to Get Involved Collaborate and submit research ideas Serve on a project panel and provide technical guidance on projects Nominations are typically due in August or September Submit a RFP Participate in Research Surveys, expert interviews, etc. Apply research findings Association of California Airports - 2019
