  3. ZINC FUNCTIONS- tissue growth and wound healing, part of many enzymes in energy and nucleic acid metabolism immune function, vitamin a transport, insulin function SOURCES- meat, fish, poultry, beans DEFICIENCIES- function impairment -eg abnormal glucose transport TOXICITIES- elevated bad cholesterol and decreased good cholesterol, vomiting, impaired calcium absorption

  5. SELENIUM FUNCTIONS- antioxidant SOURCES- seafood, liver, grains from selenium rich soil DEFICIENCIES- heart disease TOXICITIES- nausea, vomiting, nerve damage

  6. COPPER FUNCTIONS- hemoglobin formation, part of several enzymes, used in energy metabolism SOURCES- organ meats, seafood, nuts DEFICIENCIES- rare-anemia TOXICITIES- vomiting, diarrhea

  7. MANGANESE FUNCTIONS- part of enzymes in fat synthesis, growth, and blood clotting SOURCES - widely distributed in foods DEFICIENCIES - rare TOXICITIES – rare -nervous system disorders

  8. FLUORIDE FUNCTIONS- tooth enamel maintenance, resistance to dental decay, bone formation and integrity SOURCES- fluoridated water(natural or otherwise, tea) DEFICIENCIES- teeth decay, osteoporosis TOXICITIES – mottling of teeth, nausea, vomiting

  9. CHROMIUM FUNCTIONS- co-factor for insulin SOURCES- meat, whole grain, nuts, cheese DEFICIENCIES- insulin resistance, impaired glucose tolerance TOXICITIES- dietary unknown- -occupational-chromium dust-skin and kidney damage

  10. MOLYBDENUM FUNCTIONS- component of many enzymes- works with riboflavin to incorporate iron into hemoglobin SOURCES – milk, legumes, bread, grains DEFICIENCIES- unknown TOXICITIES- occupational- gout like symptoms
