  4. Common Application • Common point of entry for Calhoun County • Children may be entered at birth • The application is used for enrollment into GSRP programs and Head Start • Provides a data base for K-3 schools knowing what services families have accessed for their children

  5. Family Coaches • Recruitment • Hiring • Training • Coaching Model • BrazeltonTouchpoints • Working with community organizations and agencies

  6. Welcome Baby Baskets • 800 births in Battle Creek each year • No income limitations • All are eligible for a basket delivered by a family coach • Baskets include a community resource guide • Every recipient is enrolled in the Imagination Library program as are siblings under the age of 5

  7. Home Visits • Staff of 10 family coaches • 2 speak Spanish • 2 speak several Burmese dialects • Ages and Stages Developmental Screener • Introduce Raising a Reader Program • Implement the Parents as Teachers Curriculum • Encourage and support families in the education of their child and life in general connecting them with resources

Toddler Play Groups • Currently 7 locations in Battle Creek • Locations include elementary schools and community agencies like VOCES, Burma Center and Urban League • Serve Infants through 4 year olds • Host family events each quarter • 2 groups are lead in two languages • Provide transportation for parents and children

  9. Community Partners for Toddler Play Groups • YMCA • Willard Library • Binder Park Zoo • Kids n Stuff Museum in Albion • VOCES Latino Center • Burma Center • Battle Creek City Parks for summer play groups

  10. Improving the Quality of Preschools • Introduction of HighScope Curriculum • HighScope demonstration classrooms • GSRP HighScope Coaches • ECC preschool coach for centers and providers • HighScope Training for 40 preschool teachers in June of 2012 and June 2013 • 3 year old scholarship program

Data Collection • Monthly meeting with family coaches to review the data dashboard • Program evaluator meets with us monthly to trouble shoot • Share the stories of challenges and success in our work with families • Make decisions as a group to change practices, adjust services, develop new protocols
