  2. What is a Room Parent • A room parent is the next best thing to the classroom teacher. • You will communicate directly with classroom parents, the teacher and the school to help support your child’s classroom environment. • Every teacher is different so get to know your teacher. Know what things they need.

  3. Communication: • It is important that parents know what’s going on in the classroom. • Teachers are responsible for figuring out the best way to communicate with their parents; newsletters, emails, blogs, website. • As a room parent you will be responsible for helping the teacher carry out this task.

  4. Classroom Assistance/Supplies: • Numerous classroom tasks are needed throughout the school year. • Your child’s teacher may need help to set up bulletin boards to display work. • Your child’s classroom may be running low on supplies or the teacher may request parents send in specific supplies for class projects. • Solicit help and participation from parents to ensure your child’s learning experience is complete.

  5. Teacher Birthdays and Appreciation Days • These days are very important!! We love our teachers very much and we need your help to make them feel loved. • Work together with your classroom parents to find the best token of love for your teacher. • Suggestions: Take up a collection to purchase a gift, bring in a cake, flowers or balloons, have the class make or sign a card, etc. • Every teacher is different, get to know their likes and dislikes.

  6. Holidays & Class Celebrations • Coordinate with your child’s teacher what is needed to have a celebration in the classroom for Christmas and the end of year celebration. • You may want to ask other parents to donate towards the supplies and to help with the set up and clean up.

  7. Do’s and Don’ts of the task • Do communicate regularly with the parents • Do get other parents to help • Do have fun helping out • Don’t call or email daily. • Don’t do it by yourself
