  13. Compound 5: Allura red ac (inactive) • C18H14N2Na2O8S2 • Organic • Allura Red AC is a red dye that has several names including: Food Red 17, C.I. 16035, FD&C Red 40, and E129. It has the appearance of a dark red powder and is soluble in water. It was originally made from coal tar, but it now mostly made from petroleum.

It’s made from inexpensive coconut and palm oils, and is a common component of many domestic cleaning products. It is highly effective in removing oils and creating a lather.
