Who was involved? • Learning Forward created the SAI. • The Greece Central School District administered the SAI on October 8, 2010. • The process was coordinated by Marguerite Dimgba, Director of the GCSD Professional Learning Center and Juliet Correll with MyLearningPlan. • Participants included: • School-based instructional staff across all 21 schools • “Floating” instructional staff • Building leaders • Measures used were: • SAI survey • Focus group of teachers • Individual Principal interviews
What is the SAI? • A reliable and valid survey tool to measure alignment of professional learning (PL) initiatives to the LearningForward Standards for Staff Development • Supports the development of a common language to enhance PL • Helps to answer the following questions: • What are the strengths and areas for growth regarding PL in each school? • Where should we focus attention to improve the quality of PL? • How can we measure our district’s progress towards our goal of providing effective professional development experiences to all educators? • 60 questions regarding how often a school follows a standards-based PL practice • All questions have the same multiple-choice answers with numerical values: • Always (4), Frequently (3), Sometimes (2), Seldom (1), Never (0) • SAI was administered at GCSD during a district-wide PL Day. All schools participated then, except one school, which completed it two weeks later.
Who participated? • SAI: • 927 GCSD users registered on the SAI web site • Total responses to the survey: N = 874 • 21 buildings participated • 4 people participated from the Central Office • Teacher Focus Group: • Mix of mentor teachers and classroom teachers • Individual Principals Interviews: • 3 elementary principals • 1 middle school principal • 1 high school principal
What do the data reveal? • Overall standard averages graph for GCSD. Identify our areas of strength and areas of improvement as a district. (5 Minutes)
What do the data reveal? • District Level Analysis: Of the 12 professional development standards, • Highest rated standards were: • Leadership and Equity. • Data-Driven was also high. • Lowest rated standards were: • Evaluation, Learning Communities, and Family Involvement. • Additional potential growth areas are Learning and Resources.
What do the data reveal? • Learning Activity • Each school received one folder with their specific school data. Compare the districtwide results to your school data. • Identify next steps or possible action items. Note: The Professional Development Policy Board met last week to review the districtwide results. They brainstormed a list of possible next steps. Feel free to modify and/or add to this list.
