  2. A Rube… What?? A Rube Goldberg machine is a deliberately over-engineered or overdone machine that performs a very simple task in a very complex fashion, usually including a chain reaction. The expression is named after American cartoonist and inventor Rube Goldberg (1883–1970).

Your Challenge… Build a Rube Goldberg Machine that completes the task of popping a balloon. • 3 Requirements: • You must build your machine within 30-minutes • You must have at least 2 chain reactions in your machine • The balloon popping must be the end result of the machine (the grand finale!)

Judging Criteria Machine completes the task and team fulfills all requirements (40-60 points) Number of chain reactions over 2 (5 points each) Creativity and originality (0-10 points) Teamwork and team spirit (0-15 points) Human interventions (-5 points each) Objects leaving the machine (-5 points each)
