The current narrative and debate and efforts taken in the southern region of the EU • Shift the public discourse from border controls and security issues to the need of developing a truly common European asylum system and efficient legal migration policies , based on the traditional values of the EU and respect of human rights • The efforts to change Dublin II should go in hand with the efforts to establish a fair and efficient asylum system in the Region • Fair asylum procedures (legal aid, professional interpretation, effective remedies) • Decent reception conditions (Induction courses, right to work or access to welfare benefits) • Integration and active participation programs • Tackle racism and discrimination • Recognition of the involvement and support of the civil society
