VIRGINIA County cavan Situated near the north of ireland
Virginia town Virginia is a small town of 3,188 inhabitants (according to census 2006) in County Cavan, Ireland. It is the fifth largest town in cavan. The irish for Virginia is achadh an iúir, meaning ‘field of the yew’. It was founded during the ulser plantation and was named after queen elizabethi of england. It is also home to the popular annual Virginia Agricultural Show for over seventy years and Ireland's only halloween pumpkin Festival.
OUR SCHOOL Our school was built by the community and always has a community response • Is unique • LOCAL FARMERS MORTAGED THEIR LAND TO BUILD THE SCHOOL in 1962 • Some of the teachers in our school are the grand children of those original farmers
Virginia College was founded in 1962. The school has grown rapidly over the years and has a present enrolment of 700 students The motto of our school is “TúsFeasaFiafraí”, meaning "Knowledge begins with Questions".

Lough Ramor is a large natural lake of 741 hectares situated near Virginia co.cavan and has an average depth of 4 metres • It has a total of 32 islands • It was formed by a glacier that melted after the last ice-age
Industries • Glanbia • The word Glandbia means “pure food” • It was founded in 1975 • It produces Cream Base & Cream for Baileys Original Cream Liqueur, Milk Powders • It is situated next to lough Ramor on the Dublin road
Wildlife • Common species of fish • Forest next to the lake • Species of animals found around the lake and in the forest
Brown trout Freshwater brown trout range in colour from largely silver with relatively few spots and a white belly
Fish • The roach • The roach has a silvery colour with red fins • They have a layer of slime on their scales
Pike • The pike is the largest fish found in lough Ramor, some grow up to 30 pounds • They have a greyish green colour to them and they have large teeth
Animals around the lake • An animal commonly found along the shores of Lough Ramor is the mink • The mink feeds on and fish it can catch and it is quite fearless • It has a brown/black coat
Forest animals • These animals include, fox’s, badgers, frogs, pheasants, robins, hedgehog and rabbit are most common • The forest itself is mainly made up of oak, horsechestnut, pine, beach and sycamore
