TeacherReady™ is • A nine month online program designed for people who have a bachelor’s degree and who are working full time • A state approved Educator Preparation Institute (2005) • Seven instructional units developed to provide skills, knowledge and practice to be a successful first year teacher
The units of instruction in TeacherReady™ are based on the Florida Educator Accomplished Practices (standards for teachers).
The seven instructional units • Unit 1 What do I need to know to be successful as a professional educator? • Unit 2 Who are my students? • Unit 3 How do my students learn? • Unit4 How do I know my students learn? • Unit 5 How do I organize to provide my students with the maximum learning situation? • Unit 6 How do I communicate with students, parents, faculty, administration and the community? • Unit 7 What are some critical issues in education today ( ESOL and reading in the content area)?
The units of instruction consist of • Content • Readings • Activities • Field experiences • Goal setting
Each unit contains a varying number of modules. • Each unit has specific learning targets. • Each module has specific learning targets that align to the unit learning targets. • All of these learning targets are aligned the Florida Educator Accomplished Practices.

Feedback from the instructor is provided on all • Activities • Field experiences • Reflections • Goals
Field experiences are embedded within and aligned to each instructional unit • Interviews, meetings, substituting, observing • The culminating field experience is five consecutive days teaching in the same classroom • Students complete a minimum of 150 hours of field experiences
Placement for Field Experiences • Students complete Field Experience Contact form • ICL staff contacts the district or school and makes the request • When placed, an assignment form is signed by school and district administration, mentor teacher and TeacherReady™ student
Mentor Teacher becomes the onsite support for TeacherReady™ for the nine month time period • The mentor participates in an online clinical teacher education training required by the state of Florida. • After the culminating experience the mentor is given a stipend of $500 for coaching and supporting the TeacherReady™ student.
Sample field experiences • Unit 2—substitute in diverse classroom • Unit 4—interview district Assessment Director • Unit 5—observe a classroom focus on one student
Culminating –five consecutive days in the classroom • Lesson plans • Daily field reflections • Daily mentor feedback • Instructor feedback
Successful completion of the program and the three state required tests lead to • professional teacher certification in the state of Florida. • opportunity to transfer 12 semester hours of graduate credit to an online masters in education at the University of West Florida.
Who are TeacherReady™ students? • Military personnel • Military spouses • Career changers • Non education college graduates • Currently teaching but not certified • From 11 different states and 7 countries • About 150 currently enrolled
Who are our graduates? • 28 who have fulfilled all requirements • 39 in process of completing the three state required tests • Of the 28, 25 are currently teaching, 3 are looking and interviewing for teaching positions
