Speaker recognition • Characteristics to analyze: • Pitch how high/low voice is • Tone emotions • Inflection if you go up or down at the end of a sentence • Accent regional • Patterns of speech Use of slang, speech impediments, use of vocabulary, word/syllable emphasis

Spectrogram • Analyzing speech with sound waves • Usually 3 axes: • X axis = time • Y axis = frequency • Z axis = amplitude (usually displayed by colors in less high tech software/equipment) • Technology doesn’t exist to separate and analyze two speakers at the same time

Protocol • I’ll play each voice sample 2 or 3 times • Listen carefully and then jot notes AFTER it plays • You’ll break into teams, and I’ll play each sample one more time. • Your team task is to identify as many speakers that you can!
