The Speaking Test has three tasks: Task 1 A 2-way discussion with the assessor about the themes and topics covered in Units 1-4 a dialogue Task 2 A description of a picture, based on the themes and topics covered in Units 1-4 a description of a picture Task 3 A response to a particular situation, based on the themes and topics covered in Units 1-4 a reaction to a situation
You will have a 2-way conversation with the assessor. • The assessor will ask you five questions about a theme covered in Units 1-4. • Answer in full sentences. Task 1 Task Length: 90 seconds
What did you do on your last vacation? What is the best kind of vacation? What are some of the good and bad effects of tourists visiting famous places? What are popular places for tourists in your home country? Where are you going to go next vacation? Why?
You will describe a picture • The picture is based on a theme covered in Units 1-4 • Describe what you can see in the picture for about 1 minute Task 2 Task Length: 90 seconds
Tip 1 Talk about what you can see in the picture • I can see mountains • I can see plants • I can see a shadow • I can see two men • I can see tents • I can see trees
Tip 2 Talk about facts like colors, age, size, etc. • The man on the left is wearing a red T-shirt • The man on the right is wearing a black T-shirt • The trees are green • The tents are yellow and grey • The mountains are green
Tip 2 Talk about facts like colors, age, size, etc. • The trees are tall • The tents are not big • The mountains are very big • The men are old • The men are not young
Tip 3 Talk about possible things that you can't see in the picture • I can't see children • I can't see cars • I can't see the sky • I can't see animals • I can't see houses
Tip 4 Describe what you see in the picture • The mountains are beautiful • The men are reading • The sky is cloudy • The trees are beautiful
Tip 5 Talk about the theme (topic) of the picture • They are camping in a forest near mountains • I will go there if I have an opportunity • This picture is about vacation • These people are on vacation • They came here to relax
Tip 6 Talk about what you think (your opinion) • I think this place is enjoyable • I think there are other people in the tents • I think this place is in USA • I think these people are Americans • I think they are in a vacation
You will respond to a situation with 1 or 2 sentences • The situation is based on a theme covered in Units 1-4 • The situation is usually a speaking skill covered on pages 20, 38, 61 & 83 Task 3 Task Length: 30 seconds
Situation Your teacher is explaining something in the classroom. You don't understand and you want a clarification/ repetition. How do you respond? / How do you ask him for clarification? Speaking skill page 20 Possible Answers: I'm sorry. I didn't understand. (Or) Could you repeat that? (Or( Could you say that again, please? Please note: It is better to use two responses.
