CNMGED Orientation General Information • You are eligible to take the GED Tests if • You are 16 years of age or more and • You are not enrolled in an accredited public or private school • You have not qualified for a high school diploma or equivalency certificate in the United States or Canada • If you are 16 or 17 years old, you will need to obtain an Underage Verification Form (UVF) from your school district headquarters and bring it with you when you register for the GED Tests. UVF forms available at the Assessment Center. The Albuquerque Public Schools main office is located at 6400 Uptown Blvd NE West Building Suite 100, (505) 855-9042.

  4. CNMGED Orientation Preparing for the GED • CNM offers free GED preparation classes, including books and materials. You can call one of the following numbers: • Main Campus – 224-4282 • Montoya Campus – 224-5993 • South Valley Campus – 224-5061 • Westside Campus – 224-5382 • You can take a computerized GED practice test at Main, Montoya Campus, or Westside Campus to see how prepared you are; call 224-3244 (Main), 224-5761 (Montoya), or 224-5382 (Westside) for more information. • Several GED preparation books are available in public libraries, major bookstores and the internet has free practice tests.

  5. CNMGED Orientation Identification To register, you must present 2 types of ID, one must be a government-issued picture ID, such as a driver’s license or state ID card. Other acceptable IDs include passports, military identification, and IDs from Native American tribes based in New Mexico. You will also need to present a second ID, such as a social security card, school ID, credit card, or government document that shows your name and social security number. You must present these two IDs to register for the GED as well as to take the test.

CNMGED Orientation Where to Register Main Campus GED registration is conducted in the Assessment Center, located in Room 204 of the Student Services Building, 900 University Blvd, SE (to the north of the Isotopes baseball stadium). You can register for the GED from 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Questions? Call 224-3244 Montoya Campus GED registration is conducted at Testing Services in Tom Wiley Hall, Room 201. The Joseph M. Montoya Campus is located on 4700 Morris, NE (north of Montgomery Blvd), in northeast Albuquerque. You can register for the GED from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Monday through Friday. Questions? Call 224-5761. Westside Campus GED registration is conducted in the Assessment Center, located in room 116. The Westside Campus is located at 10549 Universe Blvd, NW, just North of Irving. You can register for the GED from 8a.m. to 4p.m. Monday through Friday. Questions? Call 224-5382. Be sure to bring your ID and (if under 18) an Underage Verification Form.

CNMGED Orientation Registration – Processing • You will be asked to complete the following steps: • If you are under 18, bring an Underage Verification Form (UVF) and give it to the receptionist. • Fill out a demographics form, which asks for your identifying information and also contains a number of survey questions. Be sure to fill in all sections completely. • Sign and date the application form generated by the receptionist. Be sure to note your testing date and time. Please read the additional papers attached to your application. • Processing takes from 30 to 45 minutes.

  8. CNMGED Orientation Special Accommodations • If you have a documented disability, you may qualify for special accommodations testing, which is conducted one-on-one with a GED examiner and includes one or more of the following: • Extra time • Frequent breaks • Large print, audio, or Braille editions • Other accommodations • Contact Special Services at (505) 224-3259 for more information. Approval must be obtained at the state or national level; therefore, the waiting period may be two months or more.

CNMGED Orientation Testing Location • Actual GED testing is conducted in Room 129 of the CNM Workforce Training Center, 5600 Eagle Rock Ave. NE, near the intersection of I-25 and Alameda Blvd. • Be sure to arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the first testing session. You must arrive on time and attend the orientation session at the beginning of the first testing day. • FIRST DAY: • 8:15 a.m. – Orientation and Writing • 11:00 a.m. – Math • SECOND DAY: • 8:15 a.m. – Science • 10:00 a.m. – Social Studies • 11:45 a.m. – Reading • Testing ends at about 1:30 p.m. both days.

  10. CNMGED Orientation On Testing Day • Be sure to bring your government-issued picture ID and second ID. All necessary materials will be provided. • Personal items, such as coats and jackets, hats and other headgear, books, bags, purses, cell phone and pagers, and any other nonessential items must be left on the coat rack at the front of the testing room. Cell phones and pagers must be completely turned off. • Examinees are not permitted to interrupt their testing for any reason; be sure to attend to your personal needs before each test. If you have to leave the room your scores will be invalid for that particular test. • If you miss a test, you will need to register at Main, Montoya, or Westside Campus for a monthly retest session. • Please wear appropriate, non-revealing clothes. • Due to limited seating, the Workforce Training Center staff asks that you request family or friends to return at the end of the testing day instead of waiting in the hallway all day for testing to end.

  11. CNMGED Orientation Passing the GED • To pass the GED, you must meet two standards: • A minimum standard score of 410 of 800 possible points on all five subject tests (Writing, Social Studies, Science, Reading, and Mathematics). On a 50-question test, you would need 26 correct answers. • A minimum average of 450 (total points divided by 5). • You must meet both these standards. For example, a person with perfect score on four tests but with a 400 on the remaining test would need to retest in that subject to achieve at least a 410. • Similarly, a person with passing scores on all tests but less than a 450 average would need to retest in one or more subjects to achieve at least a 450 average.

  12. CNMGED Orientation Cancellations, No-Shows, Retests To change your testing date for whatever reason, you must go in person to either Main, Montoya, or Westside Campus. Examinees who have missed one or more subject tests or who need to improve their test scores must also register in person for a retest session. Be sure to register early because of limited seating. Retest sessions are given only on the third Wednesday and Thursday of every month. CNM personnel will advise you on which subjects to take.

  13. CNMGED Orientation Getting Your Results Your testing results will be mailed to you, usually within 3 to 4 weeks of testing. Be sure to let GED staff know of any changes to your name or address. If you pass the GED Tests, you will receive an official GED transcript, which is acceptable for school admissions, employment, or military service. Otherwise, you will receive a score report along with instructions for retesting. Within several months, if you have shown our staff a New Mexico driver’s license or New Mexico state ID (or military or tribal ID), the state will send you a high school diploma. If you have provided any other type of identification, you will need to obtain a New Mexico ID and present it in person at Main, Montoya, or Westside Campus to receive a New Mexico high school diploma. CNM does not issue high school diplomas. If the state does not send you a diploma within three months, contact CNM to obtain the telephone number for the state GED office in Santa Fe.
