  2. Listen Carefully! • A. Saul did not listen carefully! (1 Samuel 15:1-3) Samuel also said to Saul, "The LORD sent me to anoint you king over His people, over Israel. Now therefore, heed the voice of the words of the LORD. "Thus says the LORD of hosts: 'I will punish Amalek for what he did to Israel, how he ambushed him on the way when he came up from Egypt. 'Now go and attack Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and do not spare them. But kill both man and woman, infant and nursing child, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.'"

  3. Listen Carefully! • A. Saul did not listen carefully! (1 Samuel 15:8-9) He also took Agag king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword. But Saul and the people sparedAgag and the best of the sheep, the oxen, the fatlings, the lambs, and all that was good, and were unwilling to utterly destroy them. But everything despised and worthless, that they utterly destroyed.

(1 Samuel 15:10-11) Now the word of the LORD came to Samuel, saying, "I greatly regret that I have set up Saul as king, for he has turned back from following Me, and has not performed My commandments." And it grieved Samuel, and he cried out to the LORD all night.

  5. Listen Carefully! • A. Saul did not listen carefully! (1 Samuel 15:13) Then Samuel went to Saul, and Saul said to him, "Blessed are you of the LORD! I have performed the commandment of the LORD." (NKJV)

  6. Listen Carefully! • A. Saul did not listen carefully! (1 Samuel 15:15) And Saul said, "They have brought them from the Amalekites; for the people spared the best of the sheep and the oxen, to sacrifice to the LORD your God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed." (NKJV)

  7. Listen Carefully! • A. Saul did not listen carefully! (1 Samuel 15:22) Then Samuel said: "Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams. (NKJV)

  8. Listen Carefully! • A. Saul did not listen carefully! (1 Samuel 15:23) For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He also has rejected you from being king." (NKJV)

  9. Listen Carefully! • B. The Israelites did not listen carefully! (Exodus 25:13-14) "And you shall make poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with gold. "You shall put the poles into the rings on the sides of the ark, that the ark may be carried by them.”

  10. Listen Carefully! • B. The Israelites did not listen carefully! (2 Samuel 6:3-7) So they set the ark of God on a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the new cart. And they brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill, accompanying the ark of God; and Ahio went before the ark. Then David and all the house of Israel played music before the LORD on all kinds of instruments of fir wood, on harps, on…

  11. Listen Carefully! • B. The Israelites did not listen carefully! …stringed instruments, on tambourines, on sistrums, and on cymbals. And when they came to Nachon's threshing floor, Uzzah put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled. Then the anger of the LORD was aroused against Uzzah, and God struck him there for his error; and he died there by the ark of God.

  12. Listen Carefully! • B. The Israelites did not listen carefully! (1 Chronicles 15:13) "For because you did not do it the first time, the LORD our God broke out against us, because we did not consult Him about the proper order."

  13. Listen Carefully! • C. Nadab & Abihu didn’t listen carefully! (Leviticus 10:1-3) Then Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it, put incense on it, and offered profanefire before the LORD, which He had not commanded them. So fire went out from the LORD and devoured them, and they died before the LORD. And Moses said to Aaron, "This is what the LORD spoke, saying: 'By those who come near Me I must be regarded as holy; And before all the people I must be glorified.'" So Aaron held his peace. (NKJV)

  14. Listen Carefully! • God demands strict obedience. (Deuteronomy 4:2) "You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you. (NKJV)

  15. Listen Carefully! • God demands strict obedience. (Deuteronomy 5:32) "Therefore you shall be careful to do as the LORD your God has commanded you; you shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. (NKJV)

  16. Listen Carefully! • God demands strict obedience. God commanded Moses to build the tabernacle and all that was in it… “…according to the pattern which was shown you on the mountain.” (Ac. 25:40)

  17. Listen Carefully! • God demands strict obedience. (Exodus 40:16) Thus Moses did; according to all that the LORD had commanded him, so he did. (NKJV)

  18. Listen Carefully! • God demands strict obedience. (2 Timothy 4:3-4) For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. (NKJV)

  19. Listen Carefully! • God demands strict obedience. (Matthew 7:21-23) "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. "Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!' (NKJV)
