  6. The other river………the Jordan • Small societies lived in the area around the Jordan until a man named Abram changed everything.

  7. Abram • The son of a man named Terah • Had two brothers: Nahor and Haran • Abram married a woman named Sarai • Unfortunately, they were not able to have children. • Abram came from the town of……….

  10. Abram’s Journey Abram begins his journey about 1950 BCE

  11. God appears again • God changes Abram’s name Abram- exalted father Abraham- father of many Genesis 17:1-5 God also changes Sarai’s name to Sarah

  12. God Speaks • God tells Abraham that he will have a son The problem is Abraham is 99 yrs old and Sarah is 90. Genesis 22

  13. Isaac • There is much written about Isaac also. But we must move on. • Isaac married Rebekah and they had two sons: Esau and Jacob

  14. God gives another name • Jacob is renamed Israel Jacob- he grabs the heel Israel- he struggles with God

  15. Jacob • Jacob ends up having twelve sons: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, Joseph, Benjamin, Dan , Naphtali, Gad, and Asher

  17. Pharaoh has a dream • He learns that a prisoner named Joseph can interpret dreams

  18. Pharaoh is Grateful • Pharaoh appoints Joseph to oversee the entire kingdom to be sure that the coming famine doesn’t harm Egypt • Israel experiences the famine as well, but was not prepared. All of Israel (including Joseph’s family) move to Egypt.
