Background The construction for the Empire State Building began in 1930 and took 1 year and 45 days to complete. The Empire State Building was designed by the architectural firmShreve ,Lamb, and Harmon, or more specifically by Gregory Johnson. It is a 102 story building that was originally designed to be the Reynolds Building in Winston –Salem, North Carolina.
