In this activity, students will decompose shapes into triangles or other quadrilaterals to find the area of a trapezoid. They will also decompose rectangles to determine the area of other quadrilaterals. The objective is for students to solve real-world problems with at least 80% accuracy.

We do #4 pg. 23 Let’s look at it as a rectangle and taking away 2 triangles. Rectangle: A=bh A= 18(12) A= 216 meters2 Triangle: A= ½ bh h=12 b= (18-3)/2 b= 7.5 A=1/2 (7.5)(12) A=6(7.5) A=45 meters2 but I have 2 triangles… Trapezoid: A=216-45-45 A=126 meters2
