War Production Board: • American companies converted to war production after pearl harbor. • they had the authority to set priorities and production goals. • They could also control distribution of raw materials and supplies . • Many business leaders were frustrated with the mobilization process because government agencies argued about supplies and high priority contracts. • The War Production Board (WPB) and the military argued a lot because the military would sign contracts without consulting with the WPB. • So that’s when Roosevelt created the Office of War Mobilization, so it could settle arguments between the 2 agencies.
Office of War mobilization: • They converted factories to war production mobilization and built up their armed forces. • It was in charge of getting everyone ready for World War II.
Office of price administration: • Both wages and prices began to rise quickly during the war. • It was created by Roosevelt to stabilize wages and prices. • The OPA regulated all other prices.
Rationing: • The demand for raw materials and supplies created shortages. • The Government limited the availability of many products, so that there was enough food and supplies for the military. • On May of 1942, the U.S. office of price administration (OPA) froze prices on practically all every day goods, starting with sugar and coffee.
Victory Gardens: • Americans planted gardens to produce more food for the war effort • Whatever was planted was sent to the military • They were planted in any area of land that would work, like, backyards, schoolyards, city parks, and empty lots. • The government encouraged victory gardens by Showing them in Film reels, pamphlets, and official statements.
Selective Service and training act: • It was a plan for the first peacetime draft in American History. • It helped provide vast amounts of troops for mobilization.
