Summary of Main Points • Yearly checkups with doctors about the mental health of the child • Identifies children that have depression • Not all children go to the doctor for checkups • Survey conducted every fall • Inexpensive way to identify teens, but they may lie • Law P.A.96-951 (HB 4672) was enacted to help students grades 7-12 that suffer from depression. • Gives the children a support system.

  6. Visuals Depression is a very common disease, 1 out of 8 children suffer from it. Using a four question questionnaire helps to identify children that suffer from depression. When people are depressed they often feel like they are alone in the world. “‘Teenagers have a hard time asking for help… I actually though about hurting myself, not wanting to be here at all… Without the screening, I’m not sure how I would have gotten the help I needed.’” Participant
