Activity 1Are you satisfied with your students’ performance from last year?
Activity 2*If we are differentiating instruction by level to meet the needs of our students, why are grades so much lower in lower level classes?
Activity #2 – Answers from you (85) • Low Expectations of Students (27) • Lack of Student Motivation/Engagement (22) • Lack of Differentiated Instruction (21) • Attendance (19) • Lack of Positive Relationships (18) • Grading Practices (16) • Parental Support / Home Life Influences (11) • Student Buy-In (10) • Reading Ability (9) & All does not mean ALL at CHS (9) • Grade Inflation In Higher Levels / Definition of Rigor (8) • Student Discipline (7) • Unconscious Discrimination Against Students (6) • Intelligence / Academic Limitations (5) • NCLB / Standards of Learning (3) • Culture of Failure (2) • Lack of Vision for the Future (2) • Weak self-control of students (2) • No definition of “high levels of achievement” (2)

My challenges to you • Think of what is best for kids first • Check your baggage at the door • Challenge your assumptions about “how it has always been done” • Fail Forward Fast (IBM) • Provide high levels of Customer Service to students, colleagues, and parents (yes, in that order) • Ask yourself: What would happen if I taught every kid like they had an IEP specifically geared toward their learning style?
Activity #3 in small groups…no more than 4 • Could our instruction be better? How? • Can we close the achievement gap? Explain. • What does “high levels of achievement” look like for each kid? • Can all children learn at high levels of achievement? Explain. • What should our expectations be? Are they realistic? • Could our communication be better? How?
Mission We will do whatever it takes to meet the needs of our students as a team …this is where we are now…
Vision Personal and Academic Success for ALL students in the 21st Century …this is where we are going…
Thanks to you… WE ARE IMPROVING CHS
