Filter diameters and flow rates • Samplers 1 through 4 have 47 mm diameter filters • they operate at a flow rate of 17 Liters per min • MOUDI operates at a flow rate of about 30 Liters per min • SDI operates at a flow rate of 11 Liters per min • HiVol samplers have 102 mm diam. Filters • flow rate: 320 Lpm (Hi flow) and 35 Lpm (Low flow) • Analytical techniques • PM gravimetric analysis for the particulate mass (PM) • INAA instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA): • 40 elements, from Na upward • PIXE particle-induced X-ray emission spectrometry (PIXE): • over 20 elements, from Na upward • IC ion chromatography • TOT thermal-optical transmission (TOT) instrument for • measuring organic carbon (OC) and elemental carbon (EC) • TOC total organic carbon (TOC) analyser for measuring • water-soluble organic carbon (WSOC) • GC/MS gas chromatography / mass spectrometry
Aerosol collections • from 9 September to 14 November 2002 • 8 samplers operated in parallel • separate day and night samples mostly collected • collection time per sample varied from 12 hours in September • to up to 48 hours in November • 80 collections with each sampler
Contributions to samplings from MPIC and UPR • baking and weighing of aluminum foils for MPIC MOUDI • weighing of filters and collection substrates for UPR • Dekati LPI (DLPI) • SFU samplers
