Sending Transcript & Shot Record To send your official high school transcript: • Application must first be submitted • Release of records form with parent signature if student is not 18 • Allow 72 hours to process • Dual Credit • Bacterial Meningitis shot – upload once accepted
FAFSA: The free application form to apply for federal financial aidfafsa.gov • Most schools require all students to fill out the FAFSA • Some scholarship applications require FAFSA to be completed first • Opens Oct. 1: fill out ASAP to meet deadlines • First create your FSA ID and password (before completing the application part) • Student and parent must have separate FSA ID’s; do not use same email address • Student should start the FAFSA, not parent • Will need the FSA ID & password each year to renew

Gather this information before starting the FAFSA application • Social Security number for student and parents • Driver’s license number • Last year’s federal tax information or tax returns including IRS W-2 information • Records of your untaxed income • e.g. child support • Cash, savings and checking account balances • Investments other than the home in which you live
Providing Financial Information • 2020-2021 FAFSA form will ask for 2018 tax information • The IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) automatically transfers tax information into the FAFSA form • Use the “Help & Hints” on the right side of the page • Contact the college’s Financial Aid Office for assistance • Signing & Submitting • Students & parents will electronically sign the FAFSA by entering their FSA ID & password • Confirmation page=successful submission • Either print this page or take a picture of it • After you submit, your info will be sent to the colleges you listed on the form • Will receive an email confirming your FAFSA was processed after several days
Receiving Financial Aid • Will receive an aid offer from each college you applied to and listed on your FAFSA • Review & compare offers • Decide which school to attend • Formally accept the school’s aid offer • Student loans - only borrow as much as you really need • Your college will handle your aid • call their financial aid office for questions PHS Financial Aid Night – Wed, Oct. 2 in the PHS library • create FSA ID for parent and student beforehand if possible
Scholarships FALL SEMESTER: • Complete the FAFSA • Complete & submit the scholarship application in ApplyTexas if the school has it • Apply to university-specific scholarships; pay attention scholarship deadlines (some are Dec. 1) SPRING SEMESTER: • Most local scholarship info will not be posted until January or February • PHS Scholarship Page • PHS Scholarship & Athletic Addendum applications are posted here • Due after spring break
Scholarship Tips • Students can start on: • Study for SAT/ACT and retake • Typed, general scholarship essay • 2-3 letters of recommendation • Resume or list of all activities, honors, volunteer work, employment • Senior picture to use for scholarships • Expandable folder • Research: use our website, Remind 101 messages, PHS announcements, binder • Proofread, spellcheck applications and essays • Notate deadlines on your calendar • Type application if possible • Request ahead of time the number of official transcripts you think you will need for scholarships; allow at least 72 hours to receive
Deadlines –check the school’s website • Jul 1 –Apply Texas opened • Alamo colleges & CBC do not open until mid-October • Oct 1 – FAFSA • Oct 15 – A&M College Station engineering admissions • Nov 1 – UTAustin’s priority admissions date • Dec 1 – UT Austin & A&M College Station’s admissions, scholarship, and honors deadline • Dec 1 – some schools’ Apply Texas scholarship deadlines (UTSA)

College, Career, Military Readiness (CCMR) • Our goal is for 100% of our seniors to be college, career, and/or military ready once they leave PHS • What does that look like? • Dual Credit: 3 hours of college credit in English or Math or 9 hours in any other subject • Score a 3 or higher on an AP exam • Qualifying TSI and/or SAT/ACT scores • Passing a college prep class with 75+ • TSI exemption for Alamo Colleges & UTSA • Military Ready • ASVAB • Meet with a military recruiter • Participate in JROTC • Enlist • Earn a recognized industry certification • SolidWorks Engineering, Microsoft Office, CNA, CMA, EKG Certificate, Cosmetology
